1925
Territory of Hawaii grants permission for American Building and Loan to establish its first branch in Honolulu.
1958
American Savings and Loan has 21,640 account holders with offices on Oahu and Hawaii Island.
1968
Branch and corporate offices open in the newly constructed Financial Plaza of the Pacific at 915 Fort Street. The building is constructed in the same spot where the main office had been for over 40 years.
1970s
The 70s is an era of great growth and expansion with acquisitions of Kauai Savings (1971), Maui Savings & Loan (1973) and Pacific Savings & Loan Association (1977). In just 9 years, American Savings and Loan adds 26 branches in Hawaii.
1987
American Savings and Loan announces the formation of a separate subsidiary - American Savings Bank - to conduct its Hawaii operations.
1988
Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI) acquires American Savings Bank.
1997
ASB acquires Bank of America's Hawaii Division, transforming it into Hawaii's third-largest bank with 68 branches and $5.5 billion in assets.
2002
We debut our new brand logo - the kalo leaf - which represents life and sustenance.
2003
Our corporate headquarters relocates to our newly named American Savings Bank Tower in downtown Honolulu.
2005
ASB reaches $6.8 billion in assets. Our Seeds of Service program is established to mark our 80th anniversary and commitment to our community.
2009
The creation of American Savings Bank Home Loans demonstrates our focus and commitment to help residents achieve their dream of home ownership.
2012
ASB becomes the first bank in Hawaii to offer mobile deposit.
2015
We hosted our first KeikiCo Business Plan Competition to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among our state’s youngest learners.
2019
Grand opening of our new ASB Campus brings together 650 teammates from five different locations under one roof. Our campus signifies the biggest single investment we've made in our customers, community and teammates.
2021
ASB generates $548 million in loans through the Paycheck Protection Program, helping 6,300 businesses and preserving 65,000 local jobs.
2021
ASB Launches Buy Local Program as a way to support Hawaii businesses and offer customers special discounts when using an ASB Visa® Debit Card.
2023
ASB and Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines award $1.8 million to eight local nonprofits to support affordable housing and community development initiatives.
2023
Following the Lahaina wildfires, ASB and its teammates donated $550,000 to relief efforts, and waived more than $345,000 in fees for impacted customers and residents. Additionally, ASB teammates volunteered a combined 600 hours of their time to bring real impact to the Maui community.
2024
Forbes named ASB Best In-State Bank for the fifth time.
2025
ASB celebrates 100 years of serving Hawaii's residents, businesses and communities.
